Homework Policies
Dear Parents,
Each month your child will receive a monthly homework log. Every night, Monday through Thursday, they will be asked to practice three skills.
· Skill 1 – practice and complete their spelling activity for Words Their Way. The first week of October, each child will receive a zip-lock baggie with all the items they will need for Words Their Way practice activities.
· Skill 2 - independent read for 20 minutes. Please make sure your child is reading a “Just Right” leveled book.
· Skill 3 – will be one of the following; math, writing (each child needs a writing journal to keep at home), or reading comprehension. Included are websites, worksheets and idea pages that you can choose from or use for skill 3.
I ask that parents look over their son’s/ daughter’s work each night in order to help guide their child in making any corrections needed or answer any questions they may have. These assignments do not get turned into the teacher. Once you have looked at their work, you may put a check on the calendar to indicate completion. Then, at the end of the month, only the signed homework log is turned into the teacher to receive credit.
Each day the students will fill out their assignment books. They are to bring the assignment book and take home folder home with them each night. Parents are asked to look through and empty the folder and then check the assignment book and sign it each night. Any extra homework assigned by the teacher will be written in the assignment book. This work should take precedence over the homework log skills.
As discussed at curriculum night, a set homework time of approximately 45 to 60 minutes should be set aside each night to complete the three skills for the homework log.
Refer to below items for skill activities:
